As I had the same flight to Australia like the previous time I went Down Under I had another 17 hours to take a look in Hong Kong. This time I showed my parents around as well.

Leaving Amsterdam in the afternoon the day before we landed on schedule at Hong Kong International Airport. After getting our stamps in our passports and buying the Octopus card (chip card to use at the public transport) we took our A21 bus to Kowloon where I booked a day room.

One hour we arrived at Lee Garden Guest House and dropped mum at the room. Dad and I went back out to take the MTR (metro) to Wong Tai Sing to visit the same named temple. As the Chinese New Year just had happened it was a wee bit busy at the temple. It felt like we were the only 2 non Asian persons at the premisses. It turned out that it is normal being so busy around these Chinese special days. The temple is just awesome. It is used for the 3 biggest Chinese religions from which Buddhism and Taoism are the best known.

After the Wong Tai Sin Temple we went to Diamond Hill to visit the Chi Lin nunnery. Such as the temple this is an historical building but not as busy as at the temple. The building is more sober regarding the colours used but this makes it beautiful as well. And another good thing occurred, the sun started to shine. So we decided to go back to Kowloon as we would pick up mum around 13:00 to go to Hong Kong Island.

Arriving at Hong Kong Island we went for a lunch before heading for the Mid-Level Escalators. Funny thing that we didn't use them as we arrived at the escalators on the street level we had to exit for the Man Mo Temple. Better luck next time. After a short stop at the temple which is dedicated to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo) we took the stairs toward Caine Rd to take the bus to the Peak Tram Garden Rd. Terminus. Only to find out there were just a few people that wanted to take the tram as well. Queuing time approx. 2 hours, it almost felled like 'De Efteling'. So no Peak Tram this time but taking the bus towards Aberdeen where we would take a boat trip on a traditional Sampan through the Fisherman's village located in the typhoon shelter. Almost all fishing boats where in the shelter as all celebrated New Year before heading to Taiwan to do some business.

When back on shore we headed back to Kowloon to pick up our bags, handing in the key and getting back on the A21 back to the airport for the second stage of our journey departing Hong Kong around midnight. Next stop Adelaide.
