Tumut 3 is on of the many power stations that are situated in the Kosciuszko National Park and like all the others it is a dam. Unfortunately the information centre was closed today as I would give you some more information about this dam. Due to the fact I don’t know much about the technique I won’t tell anything about it as I could have it wrong. After a short walk around the station and the dam we left for our main destination.
To get to Buddong Falls we had to leave the main road and had to drive on a dirt road for about 45 minutes before we would reach the car park. During this time we did enjoy the many views of the Snowy Mountains (although not covered with snow yet) as well the wild horses running around in this part of the park. When we arrived at the car park I realised the track to Buddong Falls is part of the 440km long Hume & Hovell Track. This track runs for most of its length through nature and I would say it is a track for the experienced walker.
Buddong Falls self is very impressive. Falls like this (it falls about 1000m down over a track length of 10km) I haven’t seen any in Tasmania. But I don’t want to compare them with each other as most of the falls have their own conditions in which they flow. The only thing I can do to explain the beauty of these falls is just to refer to the photo’s. For these photo’s Rob and I walked down the track for a while until we said this is far enough. We knew we had to walk up again as well and going down a hill is still easier as going up a hill. But is was also because of the fact that Gerda and Anne were waiting for us at the car park.
When we arrived at the car we had some lunch before we would head back for Tumut via Batlow. We continued the dirt road until the end of it and there we decided not to go back via Batlow but via the western shore of Blowering Lake as it was over a gravel road that took us to the main road between Batlow and Tumut just south of Tumut. We had the choice between driving over a gravel road through nature or a concrete road outside the forests. When driving a 4x4 the choice is easy. Beside some cattle we didn’t see much else than panoramic views, trees, grass land and loads (and I mean really loads) of raspberry shrubberies. But all of this didn’t bother us as there was enough to enjoy. By the way, we didn’t get on the main road where we thought we would. We got on the main road near Blowering Dam and damn close to the hill where we got stuck on a few weeks back. Luckily we didn’t have to get over it this time.
