Mt William National Park & Work

The 2nd job was as a steward at the Bellerive Oval cricket test match Australia-Sri Lanka, with the Ozzies winning but one Sri Lanka player scoring almost a double century (192, highest runs at the Bellerive Oval ever in tests). Well I've learned a bit more about the game again.
But most important will be telling about my first trip on Tasmania. Tuesday before the pageant we left for a trip alongside the east coast towards Mt. William National Park.
Our first stop was in Bicheno where we stayed for the night and took a Penguin Tour to see Little Penguins (a.k.a. Fairy Penguin) at their rookery. It's really fun to see those silly birds walking just besides you without feeling disturbed by us. Yes, we could touch them if we wanted to get a penguin bite in our hands :). I surely will be in another Penguin Tour, but I'm not sure if it will be in Bicheno again.
The second day we drove via St. Helens, Binalong Bay (paradise beaches) and the Pub in the Paddock (feat. Priscilla the beer drinking Pig) towards Gladstone for our second night. On the way even spotted an young Echidna. After dinner we left for the Forester Kangaroo Drive to see some Wildlife. And we did see loads of them. Such as Wallabies, Kangaroos, Wombats, 1 Sea Eagle, Possoms and Padamelins. To bad we didn't spot a Tasmanian Devil, but that wasn't so strange as it seemed to be that the Devil population at Mt. William has been reduced by 80% due to a disease in the last decade. But I still have time enough to be lucky to see a Devil in Wild, and otherwise I still can go to a Wildlife Park.
The third day we headed home again by taking the scenic route alongside Eddystone Point, a Tiger Snake, a 4WD track to Ansons Bay, Swansea (for our last stop to stay for the night) and Richmond. On the dirt tracks we even stopped when we spotted another Possom, and as it looked to be very weak we deceided to call our selves Possom Patrol on the rescue by picking it up and bringing it to the closest Park and Wildlife Rangers so they could take care of it. There we've been told we didn't need to do bring it in as there seem to be enough Possoms around the State. Well we do know this now for next time.
Oh yeah, take one guess who had to wash the car when we got home...

Maaike:
Pinguins!
Hoe groot zijn ze eigenlijk ongeveer? Op de foto zien ze er uit als het formaat van een eend, klopt dat?
En is je nichtje intussen al een beetje aan je gewend, of gaat nog steeds het alarm af als je d'r oppakt? ;)
Groetjes! Maaike -
