Arriving at the park our first stop was Russell Falls and Horshoe Falls as this was at the boundaries of the park. And when we just left the car we spotted the first wild life already. First one Wallaby, later joined by a second one. As I haven't seen them during daytime yet, I took the time to shoot some photo's of them. And after we walked further for a while we were suprised by another Wallaby jumping away into the forrest. Although we didn't see it ourselfs, it clearly sounded like one. But the fun thing was that it was such a moment like someone showing up out of nowhere saying BOO!.
When we arrived at the waterfalls it was clear that it was a dry period as they weren't as full as they usualy are. Although it was still nice to see. A pitty is that nature has covered the view over Russell Falls that much that you don't have a clear view over the 2 tiers of this impressive waterfall. On the other hand, Horshoe Falls did have a clear view, but this one isn't so big.
On the way back to the car we spotted another Wallaby, but as I needed to readjust my camera I didn't have enough time to take a picture of this one. A pitty as it was so close I almost could have touched it.
After Anne's lunch at the information centre we left for the 16km trip into the park. A winding sandy road through the forrest which has some parts where you don't want to handle oncoming traffic. You can't actually say it is a wide road. And talking about the trees, they are so huge a so close to each other. In Dutch we have an expression that because of the trees, you can't see the forrest. At the top of the park we were so lucky that it was raining so I deceided to take a walk around the area on my own and depsite the rain it was still a nice walk. Unlucky for me that when I got back to the car the rain stopped and the sun started to shine within 5 minutes with a pretty clear blue sky. As you can see, wheater changes pretty quickly here. So we got out of the car to enjoy the sun while we deceided which track we should walk. Our choice was the Lady Baron Falls walk as it was the best track to walk as Gerda would carry Anne. Not to short, but also not to long to walk.
The start of the track was almost at the start and really did suprise me with it's beauty. Just 1 minute from the start you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. You feel being in a rain forrest by hearing those typical birds you only expect in rain forrest. And the whole walk to the falls were worth it as to my opinion this were the nicest falls of the 3 I've seen today. On the way back to the car we watch for some wild life and take one guess what crossed the path just in front of use when we didn't pay attention for it for one minute? Yes, another Wallaby. I should have the feeling that it kept following us all day to take the piss out of us.
After about 5 hours at Mt Field we left for Glenorchy again and we were happy to be in the car as the closer we got to home the harder it started to rain. In the 3 metres from the car to the carport I got pretty soaked, but it's part of the fun. I'm glad the rain forrest didn't honour its name :).
